He deserves to be known by everyone. I have read somewhere that Steve Jobs is influenced by him. Jobs considered him as his childhood hero. He also follows him in business ideologies.

Yeah, Danny. I know about Polaroid cameras. We still have those Polaroid photos of my Granddad taken by him with his friends in black and white as you mentioned. Very useful invention to have a peek inside their lives.

And don’t forget that investing time is more important than investing money. Take your time to work for your idea to become reality instead of throwing money left and right hoping someone else would take care of it. Usually people don’t have the funds to do that, but I have seen people do it.
You should start working on your idea when you’re…[Read more]

100% agree with Deborah. So after you’ve done that, you’re ready to actually start developing your idea. You’ll develop your idea on paper, make sketches, create a prototype (not an expensive one at this stage). You can use CAD drawings and 3D design to showcase the functionality of the idea.
And then you’d want to protect your idea, right? So…[Read more]

The first and foremost thing you have to do before anything else is make sure your idea is new! I can’t stress this enough. There have been sooo many cases where people would even go as far as trying to patent their idea only to find out it’s already on the market and they wasted so much money for nothing.
And even if it’s not on the market (or…[Read more]

Hello,
Do you guys have any tips that have worked for you when developing your ideas to create inventions? I have started developing mine but I feel like I could have done things better to start with.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Theresa replied to the topic Group recommendations for Phoenix, AZ in the forum Local Inventor Groups 7 years ago
Hi, I’ve heard about Arizona Inventors’ Association but I’m not a member and I’ve personally never been to their meetings. But they’re pretty popular and I think the biggest group out there so you can take a chance with them. Maybe look up feedback from members or go to the association and ask them directly whatever you want to know. Hope this helps.

Hi, can anyone recommend a good inventors’ group in Phoenix, AZ? By good I mean having a lot of members who are involved, having meetings, being supportive, stuff like that. Thanks!

As I said on the other thread, I love to see lesser known inventors! Although I think more and more people have learned about Tesla in the recent years thanks to Elon Musk’s car company, which is a very good thing IMO.

Again a lesser known inventor, which I love to see! It’s so sad that most people have no idea who they were, yet everyone knows Edison. And even more sad is that they don’t know that most of his inventions were stolen from others, mostly from Tesla.

Margaret Eloise Knight (1838-1914) was the most famous woman inventor of the 19th century. She’s build many inventions during her lifetime, but what she is most well-known for is a machine she built when she was 30, which folded and glued paper to create a flat-bottomed paper bag. The product was popular — so popular, in fact, that a man stole t…[Read more]

You’re all right. One thing I should add is that you also have to be aware of what isn’t a scam. Usually your gut feeling helps but you have to make sure what it tells you is in fact correct. It takes time and effort to find out which companies/people are scammers and which aren’t.

There are so many ways to get scammed nowadays, it’s insane. It even becomes interesting to see how creative some people can get with their scams. I think it’s important to point out that you can get scammed at pretty much every step of the process, from getting tricked by patent lawyers into patenting a weak invention, to getting your idea…[Read more]

I’ve heard of many cases where people would see TV commercials of companies that allegedly helped inventors develop their ideas, which turned out to be total scams. And I’m talking hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It was a bit of a shocker to me when I first heard about this because I assumed that if it’s a TV commercial it HAS to be real,…[Read more]

Hi, I recommend websites like http://www.meetup.com to search for meetups in your area or join clubs. Or you can search for groups on Facebook, I’ve joined a bunch of them and it’s pretty nice.

Since you mentioned sketching, I think another way you could do it is to make a nice sketch on a sheet of paper and scan it. Then, you can use Photoshop or Paint or any software to manipulate it, add or change colors, text, images.

Theresa replied to the topic How to create a sell sheet? in the forum Marketing your invention 7 years ago
Sell sheets seem to work really well indeed. The goal is to fit everything that you want to communicate about your idea on a single sheet of paper, hence the name “sell sheet” (or “one sheet”, as I’ve seen many people call it).
I mainly use Fireworks for the graphics, it’s very similar to Photoshop. But there are free tools out there, like Gimp.…[Read more]

This sounds interesting, can someone explain briefly what a sell sheet is? I mean, I get what its purpose is but how should it look like? I’ll have to do some googling on this as well.

David Kull replied to the topic How to create a sell sheet? in the forum Marketing your invention 7 years ago
I highly recommend Photoshop, it’s so versatile and it’s pretty easy to learn the basics of it just by watching a good tutorial. And those basics cover everything that you need for a sell sheet and even more. The downside is the subscription but you should be able to find it at a library or reach out to your contacts and ask if they can help give…[Read more]
